RIA Novosti reported that the press office of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development (MED) said that in the first half of this year, a total of 52,000 electric vehicles were registered in Russia, an increase of 27%. At present, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development is leading the national electric and hydrogen energy vehicle project, in the framework of which new fast charging stations, preferential loans for car purchases and leasing are subsidized, with the participation of 65 regions across Russia. In the last two years, 11,000 electric vehicles have been produced in Russia, and there are more than 5,000 electric charging stations across the country, 25 per cent of which can provide fast charging in less than 40 minutes. In addition, Russian EV owners are exempt from paying tolls on national roads, and the number of EVs traveling through toll booths in January-June this year exceeded the level for the entire year of 2023.

Russia's electric vehicle and charging pile market started late, but in recent years the government has increased support and incentives for the sector. As previously reported by The Moscow Times, the Russian government plans to invest $10.5 billion in the development of electric and hydrogen vehicles by 2030, a plan that includes 20,000 new charging stations and 1.5 million electric vehicles.
