According to the Ministry of Justice, the number of practicing lawyers in China totaled 365,000 by the end of 2017, an increase of 11.5% over 2016. There are nine provinces with more than 10,000 lawyers, i.e.Hebei, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Fujian, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Yunnan), 4 province(city) with more than 20,000 lawyers, i.e.Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, 1 (guangdong) province with more than 30,000 lawyers.By the end of 2017, there were more than 28,000 law firms in China, with an increase of 8.3%.Among them, there are more than 18,000 in the partnership, accounting for 66.5% of the total, and more than 1,200 with the country's capital, accounting for 4.3% of the total, and more than 8,200 individual law firms, accounting for 29.2%.
From the scale of Chinese law firms, there are more than 17,000 with more than 10 lawyers, accounting for 61.8%.There are more than 8,900 law offices with 10(included) to 30 lawyers, accounting for 31.5%; More than 1,100 law firms with 30 (including) to 50 lawers, accounted for 4.1% of the total. More than 500 law firms with 50 (including) to 100 lawyers, account for 1.8%;More than 200 law firms with more than 100 lawyers (including), accounting for 0.8%. From the perspective of lawyer category, there are more than 323,000 full-time lawyers.More than 18,000 public lawyers;More than 12,000 part-time lawyers;More than 3,800 corporate lawyers; More than 6,600 legal aid lawyers and 1,500 military lawyers.In terms of age structure, there are more than 66,000 lawyers under the age of 30, accounting for 18.2%.More than 233,000 lawyers aged 30 (including) to 50 years old, accounting for 63.9%;More than 61, 000 lawyers aged 50 (including) to 80 years old, accounting for 16.7%. According to the subdivision of education background, there are more than 337,000 lawyers with bachelor's degree, accounting for 92%. More than 5,100 lawyers who received degrees outside China;By the end of 2017, a total of 242 lawy firms from 23 countries and regions set up 308 representative offices in China (mainland) , including 244 representative offices of foreign law firms, 64 ones of Hong Kong law offices. There are 11 law firms in Hong Kong who established partnership law firms with mainland law firms. There are four representative offices of foreign law firms in Shanghai free trade zone to set up joint law firms with Chinese law firms.
