Take Root in the Frontier: Protect Fairness and Justice with Profession

In Xinyuan County, Xinjiang, lawyer Li Yu handed in a heavy "legal aid answer sheet" in one year: handling 167 cases of legal aid, providing 695 people with legal advice, conducting 48 lectures on the rule of law, and covering villages, campuses and construction sites. Faced with the problem that migrant workers Li's rights protection was blocked for four years due to work-related injuries, she took the initiative to simplify the process and mediate, facilitated the three parties to reach an agreement, so that the recipients could finally get their due rights and interests, and helped migrant workers to safeguard their rights successfully won the 13th Bund Financial and Legal Forum in 2024 Excellent Case Award for Public Welfare Legal Services."Don't let a crowd lose their voice because of the lack of legal resources" is her perseverance.

After moving to Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, she faced multiple challenges in the construction of the rule of law in the border areas: as a counterpart aid area in Shanghai, Nujiang Prefecture integrates "border areas, ethnic groups, mountainous areas and poverty", with frequent domestic violence in foreign-related marriages, weak administrative law enforcement level and urgent need for legal aid.As the only lawyer assisting Yunnan in Shanghai, lawyer Li Yu quickly devoted herself to her work, accepting cases, training grass-roots "legal intellectuals", visiting foreign-related enterprises and participating in administrative reconsideration seminars. She took the lead in formulating a standardized process for the filing of more than 700 local legal aid cases; in the face of transnational marriage disputes, she promoted the establishment of a special window for foreign-related legal services, and organized a network to protect the rights and interests of more than 50 cross-border enterprises and Burmese brides. The Lushui Municipal Government has appointed her as a legal adviser, and ther trust is the highest praise for her professional ability.

Spreading the Rule of Law: Measuring the Road of Law Popularization with Footsteps

"The seeds of the rule of law need to be sown where they are most needed."Lawyer Li Yu knows that the construction of the rule of law in the frontier should not only "resolve disputes", but also "build the foundation". In Xinjiang, she took the "Civil Code Publicity Month"and"Constitutional Law Publicity Month" as an opportunity to move the law classroom to the field, looking for a special person to explain the cases of marriage, family and labor rights and interests in Kazakh. From Xinjiang to Yunnan, 48 lectures on law popularization covered more than 1500 people in one year, including juvenile rule of law classes, special training for administrative organs, and guidance on enterprise risk prevention. She used multiple forms to infiltrate the rule of law consciousness into the frontier.

Dedication Without Regret: Interpreting the Mission with Feelings

Choosing to aid Xinjiang and Yunnan means saying goodbye to the comfortable life of the city.In Xinyuan County and Nujiang Prefecture, she regards a foreign land as her hometown."Seeing the smiles of the masses after solving their problems, all the efforts are worth it."Ther sentiment infects the frontier colleagues-more than 200 grass-roots legal workers she trained are becoming the "spark of rule of law" rooted in the local area.

Passing on the Fire: The Spirit of Legal Aid Blooms in the New Era

From the Ili Grassland to the Nujiang Grand Canyon, lawyer Li Yu interprets the spiritual core of the legal person in the new era with her actions: he has participated in handling more than 300 legal aid matters, which is a professional monument; he has traveled 1500 kilometers, which is a journey paved with feelings; he has promoted the legal cooperation mechanism between Shanghai and Yunnan, which is the continuation of the spirit of assistance. The leaders of Shanghai Judicial Bureau and Legal Association commented that she "showed the pattern and responsibility of Shanghai lawyers", and the Minjin Municipal Committee fully affirmed that she "helped national unity and progress with the power of the rule of law".

Nowadays, lawyer Li Yu still sticks to the front line of legal aid in Nujiang Prefecture. "Legal aid is not only a profession, but also a lifelong belief," she said. On ther road of spreading the sunshine of the rule of law, she worked side by side with thousands of legal volunteers to let the light of fairness and justice illuminate every corner of the frontier.
