According to the Russian newspaper Businessman, the high demand for Chinese goods in Russia is stimulating more and more Chinese entrepreneurs to start businesses in Russia. These businesses are shifting from wholesale to direct supply to end consumers, minimizing the involvement of Russian intermediaries in trade.
According to analyst data, the number of e-commerce companies registered by Chinese citizens in Russia increased by 1.8 times in 2024, from 416 to 1162, while the number of limited liability companies in this industry increased by 3.5 times in the past year, from 186 to 842.
According to data from the Russian Federal Tax Service, as of the end of 2024, there were 11300 registered enterprises in Russia with Chinese citizens. In the past year, its number has increased by 41%, with Chinese entrepreneurs registering about 330 companies and individual businesses in Russia every month, which has increased by half in the past year. 16% of Chinese entrepreneurs in Russia choose to start businesses in the e-commerce field.
The areas where Chinese entrepreneurs start their businesses the most in Russia are still wholesale trade (with a share of 18% in 2024, compared to 21% in 2023) and automobile and auto parts sales (6% and 5% in 2024 and 2023, respectively). The number of registered cafes and restaurants by Chinese citizens has increased by 0.2 times, but their share has decreased from 4% in 2023 to 3%.
